This piece of white opal from Coober Pedy shows flashes of red, but the real challenge is finding the best direction to carve it so the color reveals itself.

In this video I carefully shape and carve the opal while searching for the best viewing angle to show the red play-of-colour. Opal can completely change depending on the direction you cut it, so every decision matters.

Follow along as I slowly work the stone and see whether the colour improves or disappears.
