In this video, I work on a challenging Ethiopian water opal with a major crack, one that would normally split apart during cutting.
Surprisingly, this one refuses to break.
Rather than abandoning the stone, I carve and polish around the flaw, preserving the integrity of the opal and seeing just how far it can go. Sometimes the most unpredictable stones tell the best stories.
