Good wonderful, beautiful morning, Pawdience! We are back home and dealing with the aftermath of a massive ice storm. The sound alone is incredible—you can hear the ice cracking and water dripping everywhere as the melt begins. It’s actually creating little "waterfalls" underneath the ice on the tree branches! We had to keep a close eye on Memphis, Kira, and Eleanor because running on this thick ice is definitely a bad idea, and the falling chunks from the trees are getting pretty heavy.
We took a walk around the yard to survey the damage and realized we lost some pretty big branches from our oak tree. One of them was a huge limb that used to hang over the A-frame! Jamie and I even took a drive through our old neighborhood and downtown to see the local heroes working hard to restore power to the community. The weight of the ice has been snapping trees all over town, and it's wild to see the courthouse trees split right down the middle.
Back at home, Jamie went into "Best Dog Dad" mode and used the snowblower to carve out some grass paths for the girls. Memphis was so happy to finally have a spot where she didn't have to struggle through the crusty ice! It’s been a crazy few days of weather, and just when we thought it was over, it started raining and freezing all over again. Life is short, make memories with your dogs—even in the middle of an ice storm!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR DAY
🍎 Memphis trying to trick us into giving her a second apple of the morning.
🧊 Watching the water run like a tiny waterfall underneath the ice on the branches.
🌳 Seeing the massive oak tree branch that finally snapped off over the A-frame.
🐶 Kira getting confused by her own harness and Eleanor coming to the rescue.
🚜 Spotting the utility crews working hard to get everyone's power back on.
🏢 Seeing the crazy damage to the old trees in front of the local courthouse.
❄️ Jamie snowblowing the backyard to find actual grass for the girls to walk on.
🚿 The "Ice Storm Part 2" rain starting to freeze on the trees all over again.
