A larger wheel and tire package is practically a must when venturing onto any aggressive trail. Problem is, you’ll still want to carry a full-size spare as a backup in case your wheel or tire gets damaged—and that can be a dicey proposition when trying to use a stock carrier that likely can’t handle the additional weight of the larger wheel/tire combo. More importantly, having a massive tire hanging off the back of your rig significantly impacts your departure angle, and you run the risk of snagging it on obstacles. So for our Project Roamin’ Gladiator Jeep truck build, we’re adding a near-bulletproof spare mount from DV8 Offroad in the bed, sized to easily handle the massive Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tire we’re running. Better still, the unique design of the DV8 Offroad tire carrier means we can stow the tire up out of the way, so a big portion of the truck bed is still useful.
