This is more of a hobby. But certainly the great music comes from playing live with other people, without a click, and without a grid.
For this video, i recorded first a drum track, beginning to end of the piece, without any click or background track.
Then i recorded the rest on top. Through protools 10.
Before mixing i passed every track through 1/4 inch tape with a Studer a810 at 30 ips.
Then mixed into protools, without any EQ or compression. Only with altiverb and some echoboy.
I tend to like the "hot-cold-hot-cold" contrasts in music. And so often my pieces are about the traveling between the fast and energetic and the slow and melancholic.
All keyboard sounds are from the Clavia Nord Stage 2.
The bass is a Japanese Fender RI 62 P Bass.
Both guitar and bass use only Klein Pickups.
The tenor and alto are Yani's 991, with SAXz 1950 rubber mouthpieces, both size 8.
The trumpet is a 1951 OLDS ambassador with a Bach Mt. Vernon C7 (all together about $300).
The trombone is a King B3
The drums are 60's ludwig and the cymbals 50's and 60's A Zildjian's.
The acoustic guitar is a Taylor 916ce (2012 model). Fabulous axe.
All recorded through a Universal Audio solo 610 mic pre, and a Shure KSM32 mic.
It was filmed with a third generation iPad and with the 8mm HD app.
Edited in final cut pro 7.
