Mangroves and salt marsh often grow in areas along the coastline and they're a key buffer zone between the coast and the developed areas. Without that buffer zone, the coast can experience huge amounts of erosion and damage.
To help address this, Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) and Earthwatch teamed up with local partners to build a network for tidal wetland monitoring and action through partnerships with Traditional Owners, community groups, education centres, and Wet Tropics Waterways.
