I set up my cyclone dust collector so it drops the dust into a box. I have a door in that box that revels a beautiful section through all the layers of saw dust from all the different projects I have worked on. I shovel out the sawdust when it needs emptying. I have gotten many comments encouraging me to try and save this layering of sawdust. I made a couple of failed attempts. Then I made two cylindrical boxes and put them in the sawdust bin and let the sawdust fill these two boxes as I made projects and sawdust. I then carefully removed these two containers of sawdust and filled one of them with resin. Next I turned this box of resin and sawdust on the lathe into a sphere. The resin pour worked fairly well. There are a few small voids in the resin but you can see the beautiful layers of sawdust in the final sphere. I think this was a good first attempt at trying to preserve the layering of sawdust in the dust bin.
