The Grand Canyon is vast enough to swallow a person whole—both body and memory. Its walls are like a fortress, and its massive expanse can be disorienting. Ranger Ellis had been on duty for years, long enough to learn what to ignore and what to report. In fact, his fellow rangers used to joke that Ellis could find a mountain lion chewing on his own boot and he’d still write it up like minor incident.
That’s what made this final report of his so disturbing.
Because late one summer night, he filed an entry describing something that NOTHING could have ever prepared him for.
