The Town of Canton is taking steps to preserve areas prone to flooding by securing 73 acres of land near the Pigeon River alongside Old River Road.

The land that houses the Pisgah High School baseball fields has been prone to flooding, with Haywood County experiencing four major flood events in the past 20 years.
