Colin Moriarty says if you can’t afford the $80 price for GTA 6, you should “get a new hobby.” That’s not defending GTA 6 — that’s talking down to the gamers who actually pay for this industry.
I already bought GTA 6 and I’m excited as hell to play it. But being able to afford an $80 game and believing an $80 game is worth the money are two completely different things.
In this video, I call out Colin Moriarty’s GTA 6 take and explain why telling gamers to leave the hobby over the price of Grand Theft Auto VI is so ridiculously out of touch.
This conversation is also much bigger than one comment.
Gamers are watching AAA game prices rise, premium editions climb past $100, physical media disappear, digital licensing become more common, and consumer ownership continue to change. GTA 6 could absolutely end up being worth every penny of its $79.99 price — but Rockstar still has to earn that money.
Consumers are allowed to question value.
You can love GTA 6 and still question $80 games.
You can afford GTA 6 and still decide it isn’t worth $80.
You can wait for a sale and still be a gamer.
And you definitely don’t need somebody in gaming media deciding whether your bank account qualifies you for the hobby.
