CanSCHOOL Spotlight: The Purpose of the Can Washer
After cans are formed in the bodymaker, they’re coated in lubricants and metal fines. The can washer removes these contaminants and prepares the surface for internal and external coatings.
Cans move inverted on an open-mesh conveyor through a series of heated wash, rinse, and treatment stages. Spray bars, pumps, and chemical solutions work together to clean, etch, and treat the surface—ensuring proper coating adhesion and long-term corrosion protection.
Blow-off stations, belt wipers, and vacuum systems minimize liquid carryover between zones, keeping the line clean and efficient.
