CanSCHOOL Spotlight: Compressed Air in the Bodymaker

As the punch and ram retract after forming the can, compressed air plays a key role in the process.

Air is released through the center die of the domer to help eject the can—and simultaneously, compressed air flows through the center of the ram into the can itself.

This not only assists in stripping the can off the punch, but also prevents vacuum pressure from collapsing the can as it’s removed. From there, the can drops into the takeaway system and heads to the trimmer.
