The punch, redraw die, and ironing dies must remain concentric to control how aluminum flows through the draw and iron process. Even slight misalignment introduces uneven forces; leading to defects like pleats, fractured domes, cracked flanges, along with excessive tooling wear. The cradle is what holds the system together, providing the structural foundation that maintains alignment across the die pack and forming components. With the ram position fixed, overall alignment depends on how precisely the cradle and its supporting components are set relative to that axis.
