Many carbonated beverages are naturally acidic (often around pH 2.5–3.5). If that liquid were to contact bare aluminum, an electrochemical corrosion reaction would occur, allowing tiny amounts of aluminum ions to dissolve from the metal surface into the beverage. Internal coating (IC spray) prevents this by adding a thin polymer barrier between the drink and the aluminum; protecting flavor, product stability, and package integrity!
