FULL INTERVIEW - This week we remember Ken Dryden, statesman, hockey legend, and author. I met up with Ken Dryden in a camp, on a sandbar on the Athabasca River in 2003 when he and dozens of other luminaries participated in the Boreal Rendezvous – 10 canoe trips down 10 rivers across Canada to draw attention to the need to conserve Canada's Boreal Forest.
In this exclusive interview, we present another side of Ken Dryden as he was settling into the rhythms of the river and camping in the boreal wilderness on a trip that would take him from Fort McKay to Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta.
Ken Dryden won six Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens, the Conn Smythe, Vezina, and Calder Memorial trophies, was a Member of Parliament, and was an Officer of the Order of Canada.
In this interview, he is sitting with David Dodge on a sandbar on the Athabasca River as he reflects on the trip, wildlife, travelling and his role as the President of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time. It turns out some things never change - hope always springs eternal for the storied Maple Leafs.
