Whole Foods’ cover-up of cannibalism in its egg suppliers is the subject of an appellate brief we filed last month.
We filed our opening brief in the appeal of my conviction for my role in the #MassOpenRescue of 37 dying hens from a Whole Foods egg farm in Sonoma County, California. We have a number of strong arguments – but the court’s error over cannibalism is perhaps the most disturbing. Whole Foods routinely describes its products as “humane" while failing to disclose that they are raising animals in crowded industrial sheds where they literally eat each other alive.
I had the right to present this evidence in court. That right was denied. But there is a bigger question: what does it say about our entire food system when even “humane” farms are filled with animals eating each other alive?
