This Fine Art Friday, I am revealing the second province/territory I am paying tribute to in my Canadian Art Project. This is a series of 13 portraits in which I try to convey the beautiful and diverse landscape of Canada, while capturing the strength and multicultural spirit of the woman who call it home. I will be doing one for each province and territory and will feature the provincial flower and bird for each area, along with other notable landmarks/qualities. Today I will be describing my portrait for the province of New Brunswick. I was inspired to incorporate this beautiful woman's head dress into the Hopewell Rocks, a very famous attraction in New Brunswick. I included a humpback whale as there are many whales in the Maritimes. The violets are the provincial flower of New Brunswick and the fiddleheads are prevalent in that province as well. Underneath the black capped chickadee (provincial bird) there is a hidden hockey stick which is a tribute to Wille O'Ree from Frederiction, the first black NHL player. Today I will also show the process of painting the provincial bird of my next project. You will have to identify the bird and find out what province I will reveal next week.
