Ottawa outlined a $7.5-billion support package Tuesday for Canadian workers and businesses hit by American tariffs.
The measures include easier access to Employment Insurance and a range of loan programs.
The new 50-per-cent U.S. tariffs hit electronics, plastics, paper, furniture and home appliances, among other Canadian products.
The U.S. measures target around 5 per cent of Canadian exports, with the damage concentrated in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.
Business groups welcomed Ottawa’s support but cautioned that the programs could be challenging to access and are weighted heavily toward loans that could be hard to pay back. #tariffs #cdnpoli
