Value for Money SSDs can save you a lot of money, but how do you know if the capacity is real, the performance is genuine, or the drive is going to fail once you actually start using it?
In this video, I test a PHIXERO 1TB portable USB SSD and go through the key warning signs I look for when checking a Value for Money SSD. We test speed, sustained performance, small and large file transfers, temperatures, disconnects, SMART data, power-on hours, unsafe shutdowns and more.
The drive uses a 10Gbps USB connection, and I put it through several different benchmarks including Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, ATTO Disk Benchmark, AJA System Test and AmorphousDiskMark.
We also look beyond simple headline read/write speeds. A drive might hit close to 1,000MB/s for one benchmark and still perform badly with tiny files, lose performance once its cache fills, overheat, disconnect under load or even report questionable SMART information.
