vaultfox | Can You Sell 3D Prints? - Discussing the Relationship Between 3D Modeler and Maker @vaultfox | Uploaded June 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
This is such a nuanced topic BUT it remains the most common question I'm asked across social media. While I'm not a 3D modeler myself and only have experience working with other modelers files, I do have some insight to the relationship between 3D modeler and the maker wishing to print files ... which I find is the most commonly misunderstood thing when it comes to selling 3D prints.
Like I mentioned, this video was more about your relationship with the 3D Modeler as opposed to the 3D modeler's relationship with the IP holder and various copyright laws that are ever-changing as 3D printing has gone more mainstream.
There IS a chance you can still be issued a cease-and-desist if you're printing others files and the IP holder believes you are infringing on their rights, but it is more commonly an issue that the modeler will need to deal with (if at all, as I mentioned some properties seem OK with it ... for now)
Understand that it CAN happen, and I can only speak from my own experience selling others raw prints ... but for more information regarding copyright/IP holder rights, check out the videos below.
