When you’re a non-swimmer confronting a deep-water phobia, where you do your PADI open water training matters just as much as how you learn. I chose scuba diving in Koh Tao, Thailand because it’s the Diver’s Learning Capital of the World.
Here is why Koh Tao offers the best diving conditions for beginners:

But here is the reality check: they don't just throw you off a boat. The PADI course is a strict system of safety gates, exams, and skills:
1️⃣ Online Prep: You master the theory, physics, and gear mechanics on land first.
2️⃣ Confined Water: You practice and assess your physical skills in a pool or a shallow bay where you can easily stand up
3️⃣ Open Water: You gradually take those identical skills into the ocean.
You have to pass real exams. Every single skill is assessed underwater. And somehow… I passed it.
