October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each October, Americans unite to bring awareness to the silent epidemic of domestic violence, honor the resilience of survivors, and advocate for those still in unsafe situations. This year’s theme — “With Survivors Always” — reminds us that healing and courage are possible when we stand together.
Did you know:
• Every 20 minutes, someone becomes a victim of intimate partner violence.
• Over 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by an intimate partner.
• Nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States — that’s over 10 million women and men every year.
• Domestic violence accounts for 15% of all violent crimes nationwide.
• Approximately 1 in 9 men report being victims of domestic violence.
• Many male survivors face stigma, disbelief, or shame, leading to severe underreporting.
• Studies show that Black and Hispanic men are more likely to face barriers in accessing services and legal protections.
