Metabolic Mind | Can “diet” prevent cognitive decline? @metabolicmind | Uploaded July 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
A new study shows a diet ostensibly designed for brain health and cognitive function performs the same as a control diet without any changes. But did this diet take into account emerging research on the importance of the state of nutritional ketosis to preserve and improve brain health? No. It didn’t. So please don’t read this study to be the ultimate authority on dietary strategies to prevent dementia and other brain disorders. Instead, what this study tells us is that simply eating “better” isn’t enough to optimize brain health and lower the risk for dementia. And that the conventional wisdom around the “Mediterranean Diet” may not hold up without also considering the metabolic state of the brain. Check out this clip from our interview with Dr. Matthew Phillips for why that might be: youtu.be/QQvaVzWAmjo.

Emerging evidence suggests that ketogenic therapy may be the nutritional intervention best suited for improving cognitive function and preventing dementia. While the evidence is still early, the results are promising.
