![Why nobody wanted us to visit Saudi Arabia... 🇸🇦 (FIRST TIME IN JEDDAH)
Saudi Arabia is a place that everyone has opinions on. Weve heard a lot of rumors about this country. Most of the rumors were about the conservative Islamic lifestyle, centering around the way women are treated. We assume most of them were myths, but decided to travel to Saudi Arabia in 2025 to find out what it is really like.
(Although, not everything we heard was about the conservative lifestyle. We once heard someone say that it is infact polite to burp loudly in restaurants in Saudi Arabia. A loud burp signals to the chef that he has done a good job. So far, we have heard 0 people burp loudly in public. Another myth, we suppose)
So far, our trip has been pretty great. Our upcoming vlog (posted in 2-3 days) will cover: not only Ivanas experience traveling as a woman in a conservative Islamic country, but also what weve noticed about local women living here as we bump into them and interact in the streets.
In this vlog, we were curious to see what things are like, as a tourist, in general. We were worried we would have a tough time filming, we might get in trouble for the way were dressing, and that people might not be very receptive to us. Not only are these things true, in a lot of cases the opposite is true!
What stands out most is how warm people here are. This goes for both men & women, as well as ethnically Saudi Arabian people & foreign workers.
In restaurants, frequently another customer will help us get situated. We usually dont have to ask they come over to us on their own. (We suppose it is relatively obvious that we dont have a clue, lol). They speak great English, welcome us to not only the restaurant but also the country! and encourage us to try different dishes.
The best part: they are great on camera!
Our general understanding of the filming-in-public laws are: we are allowed to make video in nearly all public places (except for government buildings), with the caveat that we dont film people individually and invade someones privacy.
So: wide angle shots of a public place, with strangers walking about is fine, but walking up to one person and interviewing them would not be okay. We are more than happy with this deal.
And so: weve been journeying around Jeddah for 4 days now, and really have 0 complaints. This is an extremely welcoming country. This is a country we feel comfortable in. This is a place where... nothing happens until after 6pm!!!
(This last one is taking some getting used to. We were so excited to tour Al-Balad, Jeddahs historic ditrict. We began our exploration at 4pm. Youll notice the streets are exceedingly quiet until 6:30 or so. We figure this is because of the heat)
And so: live and learn. We are glad we didnt believe the medias report on what Saudi Arabia is like because this trip has been very memorable.
Not only that: its opened up a new door. In our quest to make friends from every corner of the earth... the Middle East is a big, unexplored place for us.
Thanks for watching!

![We found the coolest city in the USA! (Austin, Texas)
Be free.
This is some sort of mantra Ive been repeating to my mother over the years, in hopes of encouraging her to just sit and enjoy the moment. She tends to be very schedule-oriented. Whereas Ivana and I tend to... be free. The 5 of us (my parents, Ivana and I, and baby Jean) have been traveling together for over a month now, and our different travel styles (life styles, really) sometimes become apparent.
Example: Every single day, and I mean that literally: every. single. day. My mother will ask what time should we have dinner tonight?
....
Now, and I say this without the slightest bit of hyperbole, Ivana and I having lived together for more than 3 years, and then traveling together for more than 6 years now have never asked each other this once. Really! Ivana and I have eaten dinner together nearly everyday for 10 years, and weve never once made a plan for what optimal dinner time should be.
Heres the twist: somehow, weve not starved to death... not even once.
And so, lets talk about Austin, Texas.
I had heard a lot about this place before arriving, mainly: its the progressive stronghold in the otherwise conservative Texas, Joe Rogan has a comedy club there, and 6th street is a great party street, if you can get past all the homelessness. So, we ventured around to see what it was really like.
First things first: how have we not heard about the river?!?! We couldnt believe our eyes. The population of Austin is around 1 million people, and yet the riverfront is seriously gorgeous. Its a refreshing bit of pristine, relaxing, and seemingly unpolluted nature to enjoy, literally minutes from the downtown. I cant remember another city having a riverfront like the one in Austin. Wow.
Second: How did I not know that Texas A&M is in Austin? What this means to a huge football fan like myself is: the 100,000 seat stadium that the Longhorns play at is in Austin! This massive university (and massively popular football team) is probably why there are so many young people walking around, excercising, and enjoying the riverfront. The whole area was like a huge, clean, organized college campus. Just great.
And then we saw it: the BEER sign. Right in the middle of the river. Mustve been a sandbar? there were 40-50 people drifting aimlessly in various man-powered craft (kayak, stand up paddle board, infatable mattress, driftwood, whatever) and a young lady floating in the middle of the pack, with a clearly homemade sign that said BEER. The entire scene, with the green/aqua water, the skyline in the background, wow. These people clearly understood the assignment: be free.
Austin, Texas is a great place to travel. I wish we had more time there. Im cautiously confident I felt the vibe people talk about. I wish I could come back another Sunday, and join in on the beer-in-the-river-floatathon. I wish I could bring my mom down there. I know the water temperature/ sun screen/ mosquitos would be an ongoing issue, but, it was an inviting place. And something I wont forget.
Thanks for reading.
Be free.
TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 - Texas was America before America was America
00:35 - RIVERFRONT OF MY DREAMS
1:49 - I want to be one of the river floater people
3:29 - Robot car! (no driver taxi)

![I came to Saudi Arabia to learn more about Islam 🇸🇦 (FIRST TIME IN RIYADH)
Put Saudi Arabia on your bucket list to travel to in 2025 and add the National Museum, Diriyah & Boulevard city as things you must see while youre there! They are truly some of the top things to do in Riyadh. Watch this videofor the best 24 hour Riyadh itinerary.
We started at the National Museum of Saudi Arabia. Its free to enter, and incredibly well done starting from 5000 B.C to modern times. Learning about the golden age of Islam, as well as the First Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we got to know the place we are in much better. Not to mention: we wish to see the Nabataean tombs one day!
Then we went for traditional Saudi Arabia food at Najd Village. The design/ambiance is great! We tried camel kabsa & maqluba, and finished our meal with Saudi Arabian coffee. The camel was A+, the maqluba was delicious!.. and the coffee took some getting used to. It was a bit like cardamom tea? Anyway, a hot drink after a good meal is very nice, so we finished the entire pot!
Next was Diriyah. We cannot say enough about this place! Masterfully restored mud buildings that have an incredible history of not only the foundation of Saudi Arabia as we know it, but also the center of Islamic study for centuries. Bonus: its highly instagram-able! We wandered around and learned lots... and even made a friend at the end! (Dressing like a local makes you very approachable)
To finish up our Riyadh itinerary, we went to Boulevard City. It couldnt be more opposite from Riyadh! They call it the Times Square of Saudi Arabia. We can see why! Lights everywhere, huge screens, and people all around taking photo and shopping. The modern side of Riyadh was fun to explore.
Its interesting to note all the American restaurants in Saudi. Although, the most popular place is Al-Baik. A local fried chicken shop that is better than KFC?? We had to try it!
Stay tuned to our next video for not only Al-Baik review, but also many other Saudi foods.
Thanks for watching!

![Is Minas Gerais the BEST STATE in Brazil? (Beautiful mountains, friendly people, delicious cheese)
Does Minas Gerais produce the best cheese in the world? Lets find out!
We began our journey with 45 mins of driving on a dirt road (shoutout to google maps). We were a bit nervous, because we are driving a Fiat Mobi. Lucky for us, it wasnt raining, or we might have been in trouble! In the end, we were glad we took this route, because despite the bumpiness, we loved the scenery. It was a good start to our Minas cheese experience.
We arrived at our chalet and were very impressed!! Great value, great place, and really a great property. The 1-way windows were really something special... we could sit and watch animals roam from the privacy of our chalet, and really take in the Minas countryside.
Then, we took a tour of an artesal cheese production facility at Queijaria Cinquenta. We learned a lot about the process (still wondering about rennet) and were very grateful to have our guide Maria with us. Big shoutout to google translate for helping us. The room where the cheese is stored was unbelievably great smelling. They should make a perfume that smells like that room. If a lady wore cheese perfume on a first date, you can guarantee she would get a second date.
STAY TUNED TO OUR NEXT VIDEO! BUS LIFE IS BAAAAAAACK (atleast for 1 day)
TIMESTAMPS:
