California is securing water supply with financing — not rainfall.
In recent years, state funding has accelerated drinking water, wastewater, and recycling infrastructure across dozens of communities. The result is a growing volume of dependable local water produced through treatment and reuse rather than imported from shrinking sources.
“$1.7 billion over just the last years have been for water recycling. Somewhere around 64 projects create an additional 230,000 acre feet of reliable water a year,” said Joaquin Esquivel of the California State Water Resources Control Board.
