It's a natural human impulse to care or other living creatures, we've all had pets in our lives. The unique thing about having pets in prison is that they are by definition contraband, they might be taken from you or even killed without warning.
As always, I'm happy to speak on any other aspect of incarceration or my own experiences that might interest anyone.
