This is just some video I took when I visited the Calgary Tower during summer 2022.
I included a bit of the footage in my "Top 10 Places to Check Out in Calgary" video, but I wanted to do a separate little video that had more of the video I took visiting the tower. It was a really beautiful day when I was there last and the tower offered excellent views of Calgary. I was enjoying looking at the videos I took and I thought someone might enjoy them too if they had never been there and were looking to possibly visit in the future.
The Calgary Tower opened in 1968 and it was one of many urban renewal projects undertaken across the country around the 1967 centennial celebrations. It was called Husky Tower when it first opened and renamed the Calgary Tower in 1971. When the tower opened it was the tallest structure in Canada outside of Toronto.
The downtown core of Calgary expanded considerably over time and the tower is now flanked by buildings taller than itself, and overall it just offers excellent views of the surrounding city and the nearby Rocky Mountains. This tower really offers some of the best views in the entire prairie region of Canada. I wish Edmonton had something like this!
The tower also features a revolving restaurant called Sky 360. I did not go there during my latest visit but I have been there years ago and it is pretty cool (although you can get the same vantage point when you just visit the observation deck).
It's fun to visit the tower if you're in Calgary, and if you're new to the city or visiting in the future I'd definitely recommend checking it out!
