The Last Adventurer | Burro Schmidt Tunnel - exploring a unique mining location in the Mojave! @TheLastAdventurer | Uploaded December 2020 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
From North to South, the Mojave Desert is chock full of interesting items, and many mining ruins. Out of all of these, none are more well known than the Burro Schmidt Tunnel in the El Paso Mountains. From 1906 to 1938, Burro Schmidt excavated over 2,000 feet through Copper Mountain, by hand leading to an amazing view of the desert on one side. More of a tunnel, and less of a mine, the site is full of legends - that Burro was mining a vein of gold along the tunnel's route - and that after his death, the tunnel is haunted by ghosts, demons, or something else. Today, for those willing to off-road a little, the site can be safely explored, along with the nearby ghost towns of Garlock and Randsburg.
