A key challenge in bunion surgery is failure of the medial capsule repair, which can lead to recurrence even when bone alignment is corrected. This technique augments the soft tissue repair to provide long-term support.
In this video, we demonstrate medial capsule repair using the BunionBrace™ InternalBrace™ technique, an advanced approach to hallux valgus (bunion) correction designed to improve stability and reduce recurrence.
🔧 Procedure Overview
The procedure begins with standard exposure of the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint and resection of the medial eminence.
A DX FiberTak® anchor is placed into the proximal phalanx, positioned carefully to align with the natural motion of the joint.
A primary medial capsule repair is performed using sutures to restore soft tissue alignment.
Next, collagen-coated suture tape is passed through the capsule and anchored into the metatarsal head using a SwiveLock® anchor, creating the BunionBrace construct.
The suture tape is tensioned to reinforce the repair while maintaining proper alignment and allowing physiologic motion.
