Play a game to map the brain at eyewire.org/.
Demonstration of mapping neurons within a volume of brain.
First we reconstruct branches within a cube of 256 stacked electron microscopy images (each pixel = 5 nanometers). Next algorithms connect branches across many cubes, allowing us to reconstruct full cells. Then we then fit those cells into a circuit connected by synapses.
Animation by Alex Norton and Jinseop Kim, Seung Lab, MIT.
