A Buffalo Airways aircraft flying as "Bird Dog 104" crashed while leading an air tanker group over a wildfire west of Fort Simpson, N.W.T., on June 24th, 2026. All three people on board were killed. The Transportation Safety Board says the wreckage is missing its left wing and tail section — investigators have not determined a cause.
Buffalo Airways is the Yellowknife-based airline behind Ice Pilots NWT, flying under contract to fight fires across the Northwest Territories every season.
