Rainy afternoon, and a few people have asked about best gear for youtube/vlogging, I've experimented with lots of combinations, so hope this is useful.
I started with gopro and point and shoot Canon Ixus 230 and Panasonic Lumix TZ8 and TZ55, then mirrorless/m4:3 E-M10, DSLR Eos 70D, and lots of different tripod and camera stand idea's.
I've ended up with a pretty basic setup which I am really pleased with in use and the results. I have just moved up to 1080p (was 720p) as comparing back to back identical video's the jump from 720p to 1080p is definitely noticable, jumping up to 2.7k or 4k is a tiny improvement for a huge hassle in storage/editing/upload size so for me 1080 is the sweetspot for the time being.
My equipment list:
Canon S120 point and shoot
Zoom H1 audio recorder
cheap tie clip microphone
Microphone extending/boom arm stand with camera adaptor
Small bendy tripod for desktop use.
Sony Movie Studio 13 for editing (cheap Vegas)
As always, the most important consideration for any video is content - if it isn't interesting/informative the quality is not the problem, so while the gear shouldn't matter, poor quality picture/focus/audio is a distraction you can avoid without spending the earth.
