The legend returns! ... the legend of notoriously bad games, that is. But would you believe me if I told you this 3D incarnation of Bubsy is actually surprisingly good?
Although you still die in just one hit like in the original games, The Woolies Strike Back features numerous improvements. For one, you can actually see where you're going now and will no longer blindly run into enemies and hazards on a constant basis. There's also no fall damage, and thank god for that. Your glide also acts as a double-jump, which makes precise platforming much easier. Additionally, you have a brand new pounce move that allows you to attack horizontally so that you no longer have to bounce off enemies' heads. The level design is also more forgiving in general, especially since checkpoints and shirts--which either shield you or act as extra lives if you're already shielded--are strewn all over the place.
Overall, I think this is a fun oldschool platformer and probably the best Bubsy game to date. The controls are really responsive, the difficulty is just about right, the levels are chock full of collectibles and different routes to take, and the bosses are also pretty cool. The only gripes I have are that the presentation could be improved (it tends to look and sound like a mobile game) and the price ($29.99) is steep considering how short the game is.

![Warhammer 40K: Boltgun (PC) Gameplay
Blasting and chainswording my way through the first three levels of Warhammer 40K: Boltgun, an oldschool first-person shooter in which you play as a Space Marine battling Chaos Space Marines and Daemons.
Featuring a striking visual style reminiscent of Prodeus (with sprite-based characters set in dynamically-lit 3D environments), Boltgun is fast, furious, and magnificently violent. The star of the show ironically isnt the Boltgun itself, but rather the Chainsword. Since you can use it to home in on enemies from afar, it effectively doubles as a makeshift grappling hook. See an enemy up on a ledge? Target him with your Chainsword to saw him up AND reach higher ground!
Although I totally dig the games theme and carnage, it unfortunately suffers from a myriad of issues that keep it from reaching its full potential. Damage feedback is abysmal, for example. I cant even begin to tell you how many times Ive been near death without realizing it. The level designs also tend to be sloppy and confusing, with strange layouts, questionable enemy placement, and an absurd amount of ammunition littered all throughout them (at this rate, why not just give us infinite ammo?). And dont even get me started on how wildly inconsistent the difficulty tends to be.
Warhammer 40K: Boltgun isnt a bad game, its just a very flawed one. Despite its flaws, theres still lots of fun to be had. And you just cant beat the Chainsword, which is quite possibly the coolest, most satisfying chainsaw Ive ever used in a shooter.
If youd like to play it for yourself, its now available on Steam via the following link:

Its also on all of the major consoles, including the Nintendo Switch!
