A collaboration led by Boston University CTE Center researchers has gotten us one step closer to a diagnostic tool for CTE in living people. Using advanced brain imaging technology, researchers from BU, Harvard, Brigham & Women’s, Banner, VA Boston, Arizona State, and Mayo Clinic studied the brains of living former NFL players with symptoms consistent with CTE. The researchers found higher levels of abnormal tau protein in the specific brain regions affected by CTE in the former NFL players as compared to controls.
