There are particular musicians in the industry who find value in longevity & the pursuit of excellence; who with every effort & output seek to find sublimity. It is important for them to continuously build a historical record & build a legitimate LEGACY. Such an effort takes time, patience, work ethic & fortitude. And while this endeavor can be daunting it assures that the artist (& their music) will LIVE far beyond their scope in time; AND, with a breadth of work that encompasses 4 different bands & 19 individual releases over a span of 25 years, no other artist more than Bryan Eckermann can attest to being closer to achieving this objective. I first interviewed Bryan back in 2016 & always found his compositions of melodic death/black metal to be complex, prolific & enduring. I could see that with every record he was further honing his craft with a variety of guitar textures, subtle synths/piano & his wicked vocal approach. However, just as astonishing to me was his endless drive to be creative & his unequivocal resolve to continuously release conceptual music. Yes, the man has many dark stories to tell too! SO, when his latest 12-song offering, 'The Fall Of Heaven' crossed my desk back in early May I was eager to hear what he was delivering next. First, TFOH is unlike any record he has released before. It embodies a subtle & melodramatic approach to the genre with varied acoustic guitars, mid-tempo crunches & a wide array of sonic landscape. This style helps for each song to seamlessly flow into the next giving TFOH it's own supposition on the backend; add to that the lyrical front-end story of a somber man who finds that the afterlife is but myth & you surmise that TFOH holistically could only come from a unique mastermind. I fell madly in love with this record & quickly knew I wanted to get Bryan BACK on RMW to discuss it ALL.
