We had this video sent to us by roughly 100 different people. For most viewers the natural reaction is to scrutinize the officers in the video, and while their actions are unacceptable and we agree they should be held accountable, for us what appears in the video is not the cause of the problem but rather the symptom of fact that most officers in America get less than 4 hours a year of hands-on control tactics training (in fact in Arkansas, where this took place, the State has a ZERO HOUR annual requirement for police officers once they graduate from the police academy). At some point the blame for putting disastrously undertrained officers on the streets needs to land on the command staff and the politicians responsible for setting the minimum training requirements. When they are confronted, they’ll say budget cuts won’t permit the increase in training, but the published data now shows that better trained officers actually save the agencies more money (in reduced workers comp claims due to fewer Officer injuries) than what it costs to train the officers to begin with - so better training actually pays for itself! Not to mention the additional savings that comes from the reduction in excessive force lawsuits when you have a 53% reduction in serious injuries to civilians who interact with Jiu-Jitsu trained officers.
