The difference between current flow,and voltage across brush contacts in electric motors.You can see that if we reduce the current flowing to the brush by going through the rotors coil,we also reduce the arcing of the brush. Voltage potential only increases the distance of the gap that current can flow across,but it is the flow of current that causes the arcing-not the voltage.
