In January 2024, while cycling across Africa as part of my world bicycle tour, I visited Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya — home to the last two northern white rhinos. I began filming a story that has now taken over 22 months to complete.
This is the story of the northern white rhino — a species that has survived meteors, ice ages, and prehistoric predators… but not humanity.
Today, there are only two northern white rhinos left on Earth: Najin and Fatu, both females, unable to reproduce. The last male, Sudan, died in 2018. The species is practically extinct.
But scientists refuse to give up. Using cutting-edge IVF and stem-cell research, they are working to reverse extinction and bring a northern white rhino back into the world — possibly within the next 2–3 years.
Despite hope, a harsh reality persists: a rhino is poached every 16 hours.
The future of rhinos now depends on us — our choices, our actions, our humanity.
