So today we'll be looking at a Yardworks lawnmower that's equipped with a Briggs and Stratton 625EX engine.
Now I posted a video back in 2019 of a Briggs and Stratton 675EXI engine that had a design flaw on the carburetor. This design flaw would cause the choke lever to stick in the open position.
With the choke lever stuck, the choke plate could not return to the "choke closed" position, thus resulting in the engine not starting when cold.
This critical oversight by the engineering department would result in Briggs and Stratton losing much needed revenue, because of all the lawnmowers that got returned, while still under warranty.
However, because this design flaw didn't pose a risk to the users safety, no official recall was ever announced. This is known as a "Silent Fix."
So Briggs and Stratton covered the repairs under warranty, then updated the design, to silently fix the issue.
Unfortunately, Briggs and Stratton would not fix the lawn mowers that were passed the warranty period, which resulted in an increased cost for the consumer.
My original video posted in 2019 (posted below) is a prime example of this, as my customer brought the mower in for a repair, because it wouldn't start.

The mower shown in this video was manufactured in 2020.
