Supreme Court quashed all FIRs in connection with pan-India protests held b/w July 20-25 over NEET paper leak. The Apex Court, on September 01, invoked its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to quash all the FIRs. Court was hearing applications by Delhi Police, states of Maharashtra, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal related to the matter. Delhi Police sought exception for 2,873 identified ‘hardened criminals’ citing their alleged criminal antecedents. Supreme Court permitted the Centre & Delhi Police to register FIRs separately against the 2,873 individuals in accordance with law. Following Centre's assurances & court's directions, CJP called off its proposed protest march scheduled for Sept 5. Union Minister JP Nadda welcomed Supreme Court’s decision, and assured Centre commitment towards youth’s welfare.
