The Palisades Nuclear Plant in western Michigan which was shut down in May 2022, could be back online by the fourth quarter of this year. That’s according to Eric Baker, the head of Wolverine Power Coop which, along with Hoosier Energy, has a power purchase agreement to buy all of the output from the 800-MW plant. The restart is good news for MISO which is short of dispatchable power. Further, (Friday) the NRC issued a final environmental assessment which clears the way for the restart of the plant.
