“Energy independence” is one of the most hackneyed phrases in American politics. We aren’t energy independent. We export a lot of oil and oil products (about 10.2Mbpd) and we import a lot of oil and oil products (8.5 Mbpd). If you want to talk about dependence on foreign energy supply chains, look at solar panels, which are almost entirely dependent on commodities made in China.
