Starminer finally hit Early Access, so I jumped in to see what this space mining RTS / ship-building sandbox is actually like.
This is one I’ve been loosely watching for a while. Build modular ships, mine asteroids, manage heat, salvage wrecks, haul resources, repair stations, and eventually, I assume, run a whole messy space operation while trying not to slam your rig into anything important.
And, well… I absolutely slammed my rig into things.
This first look covers the tutorial, the start of the campaign, basic mining, movement, docking, trading, salvaging, repairs, ship controls, and a whole lot of me trying to figure out how the hell resource transfer actually works.
The short version: Starminer has a lot of potential. It’s chill, complex, slow-paced, and clearly aiming at that “space logistics empire with real physics” niche. But the tutorials need work. A lot of work. The game explains multiple steps at once, doesn’t always make it clear how to bring instructions back, and I still walked away after two hours feeling like I only barely understood the basics.
That said, I do want to play more. I think the real game is probably hiding past the slow intro, once you have multiple ships, automation, mining routes, salvaging, and station management all running at once.
So this is not a final verdict. It’s an early access first look from someone who likes complicated space games, likes mining games, and also apparently cannot be trusted with docking procedures.
