Breaking Bad was one of the harbingers of the second ‘golden age of television’ when it debuted in 2008. With its character heavy focus on anti-hero Walter White it garnered a huge and diverse fan base, and Emmy’s to boot. It’s remembered today as one of the best TV shows of all time and I want to look into why that is.

In short, I think it’s because of how good the writing was in that the show didn’t go on for too long like some other prestige dramas like Lost for example. It started and ended in a predictable fashion, but threw in enough suspense and a few twists to keep us on our toes, but in a way that wasn’t jarring or gimmicky.

In addition to talking about the success of the show, I also dive into its themes on class, race, and gender, as well as take a look into characters like the titular Walter White, and his much beloved and hated wife Skyler.

So without further ado let's look back on one of the biggest shows on television - Breaking Bad.
