How did we go from George McFly saving the space time continuum by standing up to his bully to early 2000s sitcoms like Malcolm in the Middle and Everybody Hates Chris saying that no actually, bullies are essential to the social hierarchy and standing up to them will just make things worse?
In this video essay I discuss various tropes in films and TV shows that contain a bully or bullying plot line such as in the Big Bang Theory and Harry Potter, and how bully victims are generally portrayed quite negatively, but how in recent years that’s changed, such as in Netflix’s Do Revenge.
