Chinese importers face significantly higher tariffs on volumes above the quota, which encourages them to secure beef earlier in the year. That has concentrated purchases in the opening months and left the traditional third and fourth quarter export window looking thinner. Brazilian feedlot operators are already facing tighter margins and higher replacement cost, and less predictable export timing now feeds into placement decisions.
