Corn yield estimates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Pro Farmer sit 7.5 bushels apart, and futures are trading the tour number.

The Pro Farmer Crop Tour landed well below the August WASDE corn yield, the widest gap yet between the two, and the grain complex has rallied since. Weekly good-to-excellent ratings slipped for soybeans while corn held steady, feeding the case that domestic production is deteriorating. Since 2014 the U.S. Department of Agriculture has revised toward Pro Farmer in all but two years, putting unusual weight on the September WASDE.
