According to ancient Hindu texts, A Brahma Rakshasa is actually the spirit of a Brahman, a dead scholar who has done bad things in his life or misused his knowledge, who suffered as Brahma Rakshasa after his death. The earthly duties of such a scholar would be to disperse or impart knowledge to good students. Otherwise, he would become Brahma Rakshasa after death, which is a very fierce demonic spirit. The word Brahma means Brahmin and Rakshas means a demon.
