This is the story of the world’s shortest pro basketball career. In 1972 the Dallas Chaparrals of the ABA was willing to try anything to get some attention in the hometown of the Dallas Cowboys. That’s why they agreed to let me the local NBC sports director start in one exhibition game against the Houston Rockets. Perhaps to erase that memory, the next year the Chaparrals moved to San Antonio, eventually becoming the Spurs and NBA champions.
