Nate Gregg started on the front row, P2 for the season opening Sportsman Division race at Bowman Gray stadium. He battled early with Tommy Neal for the lead, with Neal looking to have the fastest car early in the event. Neal, however, found himself turned around backwards off the nose of a number 12, Justin Taylor, on an early race restart.
Neal worked his way back to the front but got turned around by the 99 of Bryan Sykes Jr. on a late race restart.
Gregg in his number 28 car had a strong command of the field for most of the race, battling with Sykes Jr. in the 99 and even his own father, Billy Gregg in the 98 car who ended up finishing 2nd.
